12h disk drives

I have several 12h arrays. my question is can I take one disk from one 12h and plug it into another 12h without having any major issues. it would the exact same part number that i will be swapping out.

Re: 12h disk drives

I think so. The array must be online. It will inform you, that the disk was in use before and it cannot include autmatically.
now you have to include it manually.

Hope this helps!

Re: 12h disk drives

You cannot format a single disk in this array (only the all drives in the array at once).

But you can include a drive either using the front panel or the arraymgr commands.

Hope this helps!

Re: 12h disk drives

Hi Eric,

If the 12H is set to Auto Include, you will have very little to do. The formatting of the disk is not applicable, as the array will (if set) include it. You then create additional LUN's to utilise the space, or leave it unallocated for improved performance, or allocate as an active hot spare.

To include a disk into the array if the Auto Include is not set. To set auto include to on:

arraymgr -i on

To manually include the new disk

arraycfg -D -a

Once the disk is included, you can use the extra capacity as you wish. Although if you wish to make an existing LUN bigger you are strongly advised to backup your data and re-create the LUN and then reload your data.

You may find that the array will carry out a load balancing operation to take account of the additional disk.

If you do not have the manual for the Model 12H, it is located here:

Hope that helps,

Mike.
