14 Disk Raid 10 Array - All drives Removed
Had a vandalism problem and all drives of our HP30951-001 MSA30 (4454R) were removed. Unfortunately none of the drives were numbered and we don't know how to get them back into the proper slot. Adapter is the HP Smart Array 6402/256Mb in a Proliant ML370 G3.
Is there any info recorded on the disk that can assist in the proper placement in the array?
Thanks, Gerald

Re: 14 Disk Raid 10 Array - All drives Removed
Many SmartArray controllers support 'drive roaming' - put all disks back and make sure they are well seated. Then turn on the power - there is a good chance it will pick up the new positions.

Re: 14 Disk Raid 10 Array - All drives Removed
That would be really great - Is there any chance that it will rewrite over any of the data that is already on the drives? We do not want to lose the information on the drives.

Re: 14 Disk Raid 10 Array - All drives Removed
Clark, don't worry.
Just put all drives in the server and power it on.
Everything will function correctly.
The Smart Array controllers saves array configuration in the begining of each drive, so, you can change the position of the drives, change the controller, or, change the server, thar everything will work fine.
Best regards,
Diego
