15k rpm hard disk need to replace for va7400, can i use a 10k rpm?
dear all,
i had one hard disk failed in our va7400, a 73G 15k rpm disk, but i don't get a new 15k rpm new disk, and if i purchase a new one, it will take too many time, so i want to replace the failed disk with a 73G 10K rpm disk, would this act produce serious problem?
thanks for your help
stephen

Re: 15k rpm hard disk need to replace for va7400, can i use a 10k rpm?
Hi,
Usually if the storage device have a mixed harddisk speed, the storage will run on the lowest speed of the harddisk. So if mixed between 15K & 10K, the storage will run on 10K speed.
This one will create another problem, the performance of the storage will be impacted.
I refer you to use the same speed that has been used before (15K rpm), since I believe your VA7400 still can wait for the time cause they have a spare configuration.
Hope this information can help you.
Cheers,
AW

You will barely find an array that does spindle-sync and
you can't run a 15k disk drive at 10k.
