4Si Raid controller problem

Dear experts.
I am having ds2110 connected to RP5405 server useing RAID 4si controller.
Sometimes if client switch on server before ds2110 ,he can not see the storage disks.
then everytime i have to run IRM utility & make the RAIDset OPTIMAL.
is there any other procedure to make it online w/o going to IRM.or is this procedure SAFE &there will not be data loss at any time.
Please advice
Thanks in advance

Re: 4Si Raid controller problem

Not wishing to state the obvious here but for general SCSI devices you are always advised to switch on the devices before switching on the server. Your client needs to switch on the server last.

Re: 4Si Raid controller problem

hi,
While server is coming up it checks for all its external devices such as diskarrays. If they are not available it ignores, and it brings up with whatever available. Then when u switch on the diskarray, the volumes on this may not be detected. then u have to use IRM utility.

the following is the safe method.
power-on sequence:
power-on all perpherals, then disk array and then server

shutdown sequence:
shutdown the machine, then disk array and all peripherals.
