Activity on MSA1000 disks when no IO is done - Why?

Hi!

On a MSA1000 with one or more RAID1 arrays I keep seeing activity on the disks - even after the initial build of the arrays and with all servers shut down. Does anyone know why - and is there a official document concerning this (customer demand :-)

Thanx in advance

...
to be a little more precise:
I see constant activity on the RAID1 arrays - one at a time - for something like 10-15 minutes - then this constant activity "moves" to the next RAID1 array. Could this be some kind of automatic media/redundancy check performed on RAID1 (and maybe RAID5) arrays (disks i RAID0 arrays don't show this behavior)?

Carsten,

I couldn't find much on it, but it's probably doing a redundancy check. Place a call to see if that's the case.

I have now checked with Compaq (sorry HP) and they confirm that it is "Dynamic Sector Repair" going on - when there is no IO from the servers.
Haven't been able to find it documented anywhere though.
