New disks are in UNASSIGNED status.
What are the next steps to configure from the running OS ?
For information Oracle ASM is in this array.

Expanding the Capacity of an Array

saconfig /dev/cissX -E -p [-p ...]

This is done by the SmartArray, then you can create new logical drives and add them to the LVM filesystem.

Re: Add disks to MSA30 w/Raid-5 (HP-UX 11i)

Hi vcespon and thank you,

Expanding the Capacity of my Array does not work :

saconfig /dev/ciss1 -E 0 -p 1:5

saconfig (/dev/ciss1): Error - FW command bad status (CHANGE_CONFIGURATION)
saconfig (/dev/ciss1): One or more fields in command have invalid data, cmd_status=4

saconfig (/dev/ciss1): Current driver state is READY

I had try this :
sautil /dev/ciss1 reset_ctlr

But it change nothing.

Any idea ? Disks are still in UNASSIGNED status...

Thanks in advanced
Torsten.

Re: Add disks to MSA30 w/Raid-5 (HP-UX 11i)

Sometimes this may indicate an old or unmatching driver, firmware and management software. Check them all.

Hope this helps!

Re: Add disks to MSA30 w/Raid-5 (HP-UX 11i)

Controller Product Number........... A9890A
Controller Product Name............. HP PCI-X SmartArray 6402
Firmware Revision (running)......... 2.68
Firmware Revision (in ROM).......... 2.68
Firmware Revision (inactive)........ 2.74

sautil : version A.02.13

uname : HP-UX B.11.23 U ia64 0416279374

Is it good ?

Last firmware smart-array was build in 2006, my server and smart array were installed last year --> i think firmware version is good, isn't it ?

Re: Add disks to MSA30 w/Raid-5 (HP-UX 11i)

I wonder why the inactive firmware is newer than the active.

Latest driver is 11.23.0806:

Latest firmware is 2.84 (23 Jul 2008):

Re: Add disks to MSA30 w/Raid-5 (HP-UX 11i)

Hi,

Driver is up to date, but firmware not : I'm not familiar to EFI shell.

My problem is that i don't know how to change directory to the CDROM or USB drive ?

Can you help me ?

Re: Add disks to MSA30 w/Raid-5 (HP-UX 11i)

Connect an USB thumb drive (FAT formatted!) and restart the server. Stop booting and go to EFI shell. Change to the thumb drive, e.g.

Shell> fs0:

and run the tool (see readme).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
