Thanks for your help.I have that manual and have read it cover to cover, nowhere in it does it have a procedure for Hot adding a new msa20 or msa30.I originally installed the msa1500 and MSA30 (scsi rack) and set it up,it has been running fine for a year. Now I am wanting to add an additional IO card and MSA20 (sata rack).I would like to know the correct procedure,so I can cause the least effect on my existing MSA30 and vmware machines that are running on it.

I don't know where you have read that you can add new I/O Modules and enclosures with the MSA online.

All the installation guides say to plug and connect everything before powering up.

HP support documents state "MSA1500CS and MSA1500I allow hot adding of a new MSA20 enclosure". But I don't know if that means also hot adding of a new IO card.Thats why I'm posting to find out from the experts.Thank you for your input.

After another search using "hot adding" I found this:

Yeah thats the article I quoted from. It's looking to me like the MSA20 is hot addable but the IO card is going to require shutting down the msa1500.I hope I'm wrong. Thanks for your help.
