Array Expansion
I have a Compaq Proliant with a Smart 4200 array controller. There are 4 18.2GB drives currently attached and runing RAID5. I plan to add a 5th 18.2GB drive and expand the array. How long will expanding the array take? Our NOS is Netware 5.1.
Thank you for your feedback.

Re: Array Expansion
Hi Charlie;
The time it takes to restripe an array depends on how much existing data is on it now.
Presuming it's full and that's the reason you want to add another drive, you have about 55GB of data to restripe.
count on 20 minutes per GB.
Your restripe should take about 18 hours.
If you use the online array configuration utility for NetWare (cpqonlin) this transition can be done live in a production environment with no impact on your users.
Cheers,
Janine
