Benifits of EVA6000 over EVA5000

Hello all,

My boss is looking to replace our EVA5000 with an EVA6000. What are the major benefits in doing this? I have reviewed the specs and have not seen any considerable differences. Have I missed something?

Yes, a lot ;-)

The EVA [468][01]00 and 4400 are active/active storage arrays using industry standard failover mechanisms - no more Secure Path (except for HP-UX if you want dynamic load balancing).

Speed. I've recently migrated a number of servers from an EVA3000 to an EVA6100. Deletion of virtual disks took aaages on the 3000.

New features in Business Copy and Continuous Access.

For the EVA[468]100: the disk drive enclosures contain small 'cut-through switch' modules which provide much better fault isolation than the simple hubs on the older models.

in which you can see that eva 5000 (as an eva 8000/8100 ancestor has better iopses than eva 6000/6100)

3. but if eva 6000/6100 is your option it should be compared also to the eva 4400

Another, non technical difference is that of the ongoing support costs...

It will probably be costing as much for a years maintenance on an EVA5000 as it will to buy a new EVA6x00 which comes with 3 years support thrown in.

Good point... The EVA3000 + EVA5000 are also a bit behind in supporting current OS versions + patch levels.

That's why I'd expect that further qualifications will be stopped in the near future (no I don't have any insider information or dates).
