Cannot remove disk device wiht "powermt check"

When I run the EMC "powermt check" utility, I am getting a device that will not delete because it is reportadly being used; "Cannot remove device that is being used".

The device in question is a snapshot, but the snapshot (and related sessions) have been un-presented and also deleted from the SAN.

The device is not part of any volume group, and is also not presented to an Virtual Machine (server is a VM host). It is also not a shared VM device.

There is no entry for it in the "hpvmdevmgmt -l all" output.

I'm a little stuck! Any help is appreciated.

Re: Cannot remove disk device wiht "powermt check"

Hi Ivan,

Have run "powermt check force". If the device is missing from the system or device node deleted and above steps does not help you, you need to rebuild PowerPath database.

Get current PowerPath config, mv /etc/powermt.custom file and reboot the host.

When you have rebooted the host, run powermt config, powermt check, powermt save.

If you have any doubts check with EMC.

Force does not work so I suspect I will have to reboot (which I was hoping to aviod).

Thanks for your response though.

Re: Cannot remove disk device wiht "powermt check"

reboot also won't fix if those devices already being used and registered in lvmtab. check all of those devices before you reboot. You can do it online also.

once you clean all devices then you can remove by doing

powermt check
powermt save
powermt display dev=dead

Re: Cannot remove disk device wiht "powermt check"

As I said, the device is not being used by any vg (i.e. not in lvmtab).

Ivan,

Then reboot is the only option.

Well a reboot did the trick, but not an ideal solution. Thanks all.
