Capacity depletion calculatio

We have an AutoRAID with 6 18Gb HDD's. Of the total capacity 58Gb is allocated to LUN's. Capacity depletion warning is set to 85%. Of this 58 Gb however, only 37Gb is at the moment in use by database.
Yet the warning is already on as displayed with the arraydsp command (output below).

--- Disk space usage -------------
Total physical = 104199 MB *
Allocated to LUNs = 58000 MB *
Used as Active Hot spare = 17366 MB *
Used by non-included disks = 0 MB *
Used for Redundancy = 22057 MB *
Unallocated (avail for LUNs) = 6776 MB *
-----------------------------------------
THE FOLLOWING WARNING(S) EXIST:
- Capacity Depletion

Does anyone now how the AutoRAID calculates for this warning ??

AotuRAID documentation can be found at the following link:

I hope this helps,

Re: Capacity depletion calculatio

From the arraydsp output you provided it seems pretty clear to me that you have gone over your defined 85% threshhold for "Capacity Depletion". There is only 6776 MB unallocated from the total 104199 MB, that is 6776/104199=0.065, or 6.5% unallocated (93.5% allocated).

Re: Capacity depletion calculatio

Brian / Jim,

The AutoRAID manuals I have don't help me with my question. The unallocated space cannot be the cause here. I switched off the Active Hot Spare, then raised the warning setting to 95%.

Output is now:

-- Disk space usage --------------------
Total physical = 104199 MB *
Allocated to LUNs = 58000 MB *
Used as Active Hot spare = 0 MB *
Used by non-included disks = 0 MB *
Used for Redundancy = 23727 MB *
Unallocated (avail for LUNs) = 22472 MB *
---------------------------------------
THE FOLLOWING WARNING(S) EXIST:
- Capacity Depletion

No 95% depletion here, but the warning still remains.

Re: Capacity depletion calculatio

I found this information in the System Administration Guide:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/manuals/lpg28365.pdf

"Capacity Depletion Threshold indicates the amount of space which the disk array should signal a Capacity Depletion warning. For example, if this field is set to 99% then when the disk array reaches 99% capacity, a Capacity Depletion warning will be indicated. 0% means that Capacity Depletion warnings will not be used."

I'm unsure how often this calculation takes place.

I hope this helps,
