we have to change the operating system from "mirosoft windows" to "Windows 2008" for different hosts on our EVA4400 configuration.
Can we change the settings "online"?
Is there a interruption between host and the luns which are assigned?
When is the configuration change active?
Do we need to unpresent and present the LUNs?
Thank you
Regards
Marc

Re: Change "Operating System" host EVA 4400
thank you for your answer.
One question, maybe you know the answer:
Will the settings, when i change from "windows" to "Windows 2008", be applied immediately?
At the moment we have problems with "cluster shared volumes" and eva.
Like this:

I think, the problem is the settings for my hosts.
Thank you

SolutionAnyway you need a reboot after installing the MPIO on system so you can change the host mode from windows to windows 2008 and install MPIO 4.01 and reboot the node.

Enhancements
Added support for Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) for Windows Server 2008 R2
Install the MPIO DSM Manager along with MPIO and enable ALB on all the LUNs assigned to servers which is recommanded for windows servers.
Steps to enable ALB:
1. Install MPIO Manager
2. Open MPIO DSM Management console from Programfiles.
3. Right click on the WWN name of the EVA under the management console and select "Enable ALB". It will enable ALB on all the LUNs presented to that server.
4. Repeat the same on remaining nodes on the cluster.

Re: Change "Operating System" host EVA 4400
do we need MPIO 4.01?
At the moment we are using "the built in mpio feature" from windows 2008r2

Re: Change "Operating System" host EVA 4400
You can also used built in MPIO, but you have the features like ALB can be enabled which results the better performance on EVA by reducing the Proxy IO.
Practically i have not observed any issues with Windows 2008 machines with the hostmode "windows", but you can change the host mode to "windows 2008" on fly and take a reboot of the node one by one..

Re: Change "Operating System" host EVA 4400
So, plan a reboot with the desired o/s setting in place.
Anyone else have a more definitive answer?
