Configure Storageworks HP MSA 30

I am configuring a new Storageworks MSA 30 DB storage on HPUX. I have 5 (146GB) drives. I have configured LUN 0, raid 5 with 4 disk for a total of 460MB available. I have 1 disk not assigned. If I want to add to LUN 0, what is the syntax?
saconfig ???????, Thanks,

Re: Configure Storageworks HP MSA 30

Hi,

maybe this will helpâ ¦..If you want to add it as a spare see below.

Adding a Spare Disk Drive

# saconfig /dev/cissX -A -s

command is used to add a spare physical disk to an existing logical drive:

Example:
# saconfig /dev/ciss7 -A 0 -s 1:3

- Spare drive 1:3 added to Logical drive 0

- You can add multiple spare physical disks to a logical drive, depending on the number of physical disks in the array that are not in use.

Re: Configure Storageworks HP MSA 30

Thanks, let me rephrase my question, if I want to add more space to the new LUN 0, do I need to rebuild the LUN? or can I add the extra disk on the fly so my new configuration will be raid 5 with 5 disk. Thanks,

Re: Configure Storageworks HP MSA 30

Hi again,

Firstly on a physical level you can add a disk to the array and expand the logical (HW level). Don't be tempted to resize the existing HP-UX volume group using a 3rd party tool to expand it. Secondly best if you create another volume group within HP-UX to use the new disk space then add that available space to the existing logical volume you want to expand.
