Connecting a DS2300 to a Sun Machine

Connecting a DS2300 to a Sun Machine

Hi,

We are looking at replacing our HP machines and new HP machines or SUN machines could be an alternative.

About a year ago, we put in a DS2300 storage device and we would like to keep this device, even we if get a Sun machine. This device has 2 SCSI/LVD connections to the HP machine.

1. Can I use the DS2300 with a SUN machine?
2. If so, what SCSI cards do I require on the SUN machine
3. Do I need to re-format these disks once connected to a SUN machine?
4. Will I require any other hardware connections?

Many thanks

Re: Connecting a DS2300 to a Sun Machine

1. yes
2. You need the following SCSI Adapter,
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Devices/SCSI/SCSI_Dual_Ultra3_PCI.html
3. Yes. HP LVM/VxVM Disks are not recognized with Solaris.

Re: Connecting a DS2300 to a Sun Machine

Initial thoughts :

1. Do Sun support this? Probably not as they can sell you something with a Sun badge.
2. Will it work. Not sure, probably.
3. You'd need the same LVD cards. Speak to your Sun supplier for part numbers.
4. Solaris won't recognise LVM so so'd need to run format and slice up the disks or run Veritas volume manager.

Dave.

HP Officially doesn't claim support. But I have seen people using it with Sun.
