DL360 P21 - Windows XP

Hello,

I am trying to install Windows XP on a DL360 P21 and no matter what I try (all manor of different drivers from HP) I keep getting the following error:

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

Is it possible to run Windows XP on this or do I need to run 2000/2003?

Thanks

Sean

Sean:

Assuming you have a Smart Array controller in the 360, did you create a logical drive on the array controller?

Also, are you trying to load the SMart Array controller driver at the beginning of the Windows Install? ("Press F6 to specify additional drivers"?)

Re: DL360 P21 - Windows XP

Steven,

Thank you for your response. It does have a Smart Array controller, which shows as version 1.50 when the server boots. I have tried various drivers for the controller and press F6 during setup and select the driver, but after that always get the error I posted above. Can you recommend a driver you think I should use for this?

There is a logical drive on the server - this currently has Windows 2000 installed on it.

Which model is this? G1? G2? G3? G4?

Steven,

It says it is a P21 on boot, so it is a G1 yes?

Re: DL360 P21 - Windows XP

grin...I just looked it up, looks like a G1. (I'm a little slow today as you can see).

Have you tried this one?... http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17322.html

Also, is the bios at 1.50 or 1.50b? It looks like the latest is 1.50b, but doubt it would make a difference.

Do you want to get rid of the Win2k installation? or dual boot? Any additional space on the array?

Re: DL360 P21 - Windows XP

When I try that one I get an error that it cannot find TXTSETUP.OEM

The BIOS is 1.50 and I need to run XP instead of 2000

Thanks again

Sorry, was being stupid there! Didn't notice the batch file at first. I ran through the installation setup process and specified this driver, but got the same result

Re: DL360 P21 - Windows XP

Hi Sean,

Just to tell you : ProLiant servers & Smart Array controllers do not support Windows XP. You need to install Windows 2000/2003 server versions.

But, if you are not worried about support, I suggest to try another SCSI disk controller (not a Smart Array)

Re: DL360 P21 - Windows XP

Thank you both for your posts. I have been able to successfully install XP on this server. For anyone with the same query, you need to use the following driver for the SCSI controller:
