DL380 G4 Expanding Storage

Hi,

I have a ProLiant DL380 G4 Windows 2003 SP2 server, Raid 5, recently I purchase 3 new SAS drives (to make a total of 8). I would like to expand the current logical disk, yet the 3 new drives are appearing as spares and not allowing me to expand the size of the drive.

Can someone please let me know the correct procedure for expanding the array and the logical disk?

Thanks

Re: DL380 G4 Expanding Storage

The new drives are not assigned as spares by default, they will appear as unassigned on ACU.
You must expand the array with the new drives (add them to the array). Then you'll have more free space on the array to create new logical drives or extend the existing ones.

Re: DL380 G4 Expanding Storage

Hi James,
Make sure you are in the Physical view in ACU.
Check for the New Drives, they should show up as Unallocated.

Now Make them a part of the target array and expand the Volume. Windows will see the space as added disk space in the physical Hard drive.

So you have to run Diskpart to extend the volume in windows. Here is the MS link for Diskpart ( Just incase if you need it :) )
