DL380G4 AND MSA30 DRIVE 8 THRU 14 DEAD AFTER REBOOT

Hello,
I have a DL380G4 Red Hat 3.0 with a 6404 controller attached to a MSA30. After a reboot drives 8 thru 14 had all the lights on. Rebooted again and the drive lights were all off. Rcvd 1779 + 1785 errors on POST. We have had about 4 of the same configs do the same thing.Any suggestions would be apperecitated

Re: DL380G4 AND MSA30 DRIVE 8 THRU 14 DEAD AFTER REBOOT

Hi John,

You are losing a port/channel obviously. You could swap the scsi cable with another port, check LEDs on the MSA30 IO module (Also reseat it) to assess the fault from a physical standpoint. The backplane on the MSA could be a remote possibility. I would look at the smart array itself if nothing is obvioius from a physical point of view. The 1785 (Not configured) error may be a sign of a dodgy card not just a lost channel of drives. Once the physical view is restored you can F2 at the post error to re-enable the logicals but you should expect the worst about the state and be prepared to restore from backup.

Hi John,

Just reread and realised about the 4x the problem. If you can get a 7.40 firmware update CD (Or download individual components) you should upgrade the MSA30's I/O module FW, drive firmware and the firmware on the 6404.
