DS2100 questions

I have a J5600 wkst running HP-UX 11.0 and connected to two DS2100 (8x36GB disk) dasiy chained togther with SCSI Ultra2 wide Single Ended LVD.

My questions are:

1. What is the largest disk that be slotted into the HP Disk System 2100? I understand that there are the new 300GB disk, are they supported on the DS2100 with HP-UX 11.0?

2. How many 2100's can we daisy chain?

Thx in advance

Re: DS2100 questions

You are actually already past the limit on the number of disks you can have on a SCSI bus.

Your SCSI IDs go from 0-15. With 1 id being used by the controller (usually 7), that leaves 15 other id's for you to use. With your current setup, you can only use 15 of the 16 disks in your 2 DS2100's.

Your better option would be to use a single SCSI card for each DS2100 unit. If you are trying to pump data through to all 15 disks in any volume, you are going to run into some serious bottlenecks.

Re: DS2100 questions

I only have 8 disk, 4x36 in one ds2100 and 4x26 in the other ds2100 for a total of 8 disk. So how did I exceed the 15 disk limit?

Re: DS2100 questions

you are on a wrong track patrick. it's the ds2100 - not ds2300! This can hold only 4 disks. There are a switch on the backside to configure the scsi range

pos A 0 2 4 6
pos B 8 10 12 14
pos C 9 11 13 15

so you can daisy chain 3 units with different config settings.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: DS2100 questions

regarding the disk size - I'm quite sure the larges supported disk size is 73GB. for 300GB you need to have a ds2120

HTH!

Re: DS2100 questions

PS:

Now I'm sure: 73 GB is max!

Have a look:

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12025_div/12025_div.html

(max supported disk size = 4 * 73GB)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: DS2100 questions

So sorry. I read your "(8x36GB disk) to mean 8 in each unit.

Since there are 4 disks in each, you could chain 3 units together as said above, for a total of 12 disks.

Still, if you are going to be doing any heavy I/O, you *WILL* see some bottlenecks with that many disks on the bus.
