Disk Array on HP9000 Running 11.x

All,

I am having issue on my HPUX server running 11.x. I have installed the server with a fresh install of 11.x. The system works great up until I try to connect the external HP Disk Array to the SCSI port.

When I boot the server and do a search for the attached disks, the Disk Array does appear as 10/8.0 and 10/8.0.1.

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > sea

I am connecting in to the Array via the console port and I am showing that both A and B sides of the Array are at the ├в ENA├в state. Both sides of the Array have 4 disks that are good and running Raid 5. When I take the SCSI cable off of the server, the server boots up

Re: Disk Array on HP9000 Running 11.x

1. What is the model of your server? What HBA are you using (part #)? What model disk array are you using.

2. Have you tried replacing the SCSI cable?

Re: Disk Array on HP9000 Running 11.x

The Server is a 9000/829/K400. I blieve that the HD is the Disk Array are 4.2 gig drives and I am not sure of the model number of the Disk Array. This equipment is at another location and when I saw it last, it only told me that it was a Disk Array with not part or model information.

I hafve nto replaced the SCSI cable yet. But I have replaced the SCSI card and now it is not seeing the Array Drives. When I do a arraydsp -i I get the following

# arraydsp -i
The ARMServer did not respond. It may not be running or it may still be
in the process of initializing.

Re: Disk Array on HP9000 Running 11.x

The card at this path is the core I/O HSC Card. The only HSC SCSI card for the K400 is the A2969A. What firmware revision is this card, and what firmware revision is the K400?

Also, this card's SCSI address is set with dipswitches on the card. make sure it is the same setting as the original card in there.
What are the chances...

Re: Disk Array on HP9000 Running 11.x

Daniel,

from what you say I assume this is a Nike Model 10 (10 disk slots, 2 controllers: A and B)

without the array connected, check that your initiator is claimed as 10/8.7.0

then check the dip switches at the rear bottom of the Nike and make sure that neither controller A nor B are set to 7.

The one you connected had ID 0 so also make sure, the other one has some different ID and then connect the array to this other controller. (If you open the rear of the array you should see a green LED on each controller)

Under all circumstances check cables for bent or broken pins. Put a terminator on the other port of the array controller to which you connect (A or B).

If this does not help, I'd suspect the card (do you have another/replacement SCSI card?)

Regards,
Bernhard
