I have a HP server with raid5. If one of the disks breaks down is there any chance I could get an e-mail that the disk is down.

You did not say what server you have and what OS is running.
Have a look at ISEE

available for many different OS and hardware.

If the OS is HPUX , its better to use EMS or ISEE for monitoring/reporting.
