Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

The current EVA3000 VCS version when using SecurePath for HP-UX 3.0D or E or F is:
VCS3.028

Alternatively you could use VCS 4.004 (which means active - active LUN presentation) and either use SecurePath 3.0F or Veritas DMP.

If your EVA is in production I would go with VCS 3.028 unless you need a feature that has been introduced with VCS 4.004.

Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

Thanks lot.Pls let me know following

1. Can we use V3.0F with SP2 for EVA 3000 firmware VCS 3.028 ?.

2. Also Do we need to put additional patches for HP-UX to install Secure path V3.0F-SP from V3.0D?.

3.Otherwise can we upgrade the firmware of EVA3000 to VCS3.028 from VCS3.020 without upgrading the secure path version.

Thanks lot

Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

1. Yes. See the SP3.0F SP2 release notes on
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00248508/c00248508.pdf
Here it says VCS3.010 or later

2. Find the required patches in the release note mentioned above

3. Note that upgrading from 3.020 to 3.028 may require new Disk firmware which may require EVA downtime!

Note: For VCS3.028 you need to also upgrade Command View to CV4.1!

Peter

Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

Although, with VCS 4.004 you don't need SecurePath at all since it will do Active/Active.. Correct??

Seems to be working for me! ;)

You are right!
Be careful in a life environment since multipathing, device addressing etc. will change.
It need careful planning!

Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

I'm moving from 2 DS2405 JBODs to the EVA, so the environment doesn't really change...
I have taken care to make sure all device files match across my 3 node MCSG cluster..

Now if I could just have used CV on HP-UX rather than having to use a blasted Windows box to manage my EVAs for my UX cluster.. ;)

None the less, i think I finally got things working... I'm a happy camper... so far...

Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

Here is a question for you tho...

When I present the LUNS to a Windows Box.. (Since I gotta have one anyway!), the disk shows up twice to Windows (once for eath path)...

What's the secret in Windows to making this show up once, and still have the alternate path..??

Re: EVA 3000 firmware version

Khile
You need to proprly install MPIO by installing the EVA DSM.
Go here and get it!

Select your Windwows, choose EVA 4.xxx and follow the instructions!

Cheers
Peter

PS: In order to be able to manage the EVA from the Command View Server you do not need to present a LUN!!

Huh??
I know that.. I need Command View EVA on a Windoze Box! (Yuk..) Too bad Command View for UX doesn't recognize and Support EVAs.. :(

But I DO need Command View EVA on WIndoze to be able to present a LUN to HP-UX...
