EVA 4000 & EVA 6000

I would appreciate if I could be updated on the following.Currently we do have an va7410 with 1 TB useable capacity storage with Oracle ERP 11.5.10.
We are in the process of purchasing a new storage box with a 2*16port san switch [ SAN based architecture] we want to at first host Exchange data in a cluster mode.[ capacity 800gb/1000 users].In October] we want to move our MCSG clustered ORACLE ERP 11.5.10 [ capacity 300gb/150 concurrent users] also to this new storage box. We have been proposed with an EVA 4000 with 14 disks of 300gb capacity[2C1D]to host the exchange data, and later to include the additional enclosures for the ERP. There are some who say that its better to go with the EVA 6000 because of its technology and for its capacity.
Question 1: I want to know what would be the bottlenecks/ drawbacks in of the EVA 4000 when compared to the EVA 6000.
Question 2: In either case what is the best configuration for ERP and the size of Disk [ 300gb or 146gb disks.
May be a dumb question please bear with me but I need to know.

Shalom Faizer,

Question is not dumb, somewhat difficult to answer.

Question 1: I want to know what would be the bottlenecks/ drawbacks in of the EVA 4000 when compared to the EVA 6000.

They are both excellent systems with multiple paths to the disk and no single point of failure.

Question 2: In either case what is the best configuration for ERP and the size of Disk [ 300gb or 146gb disks.

You are better off with smaller disks, which will on average decrease seek time.

In general, your setup will benefit from RAID 1 for data, index and oracle redo logs. If your system is write intensive, that is what should be on the raid 1 or raid 10 partitions. Mostly read systems will be okay on RAID 5.

The reason raid 1 has superior write performance to raid 5 is that the data is written to less different physical disk sectors.

The obvious drawbacks of smaller disks is that it limits your overall capacity.

It does confirms my opinion too.
Do you have any techncal writeup on the way the controllers and the mechanism by which the IO and data are written to the array.
If you do can u share that with me.

I can't say I'm sure which document provides the actual answer. I based my answer on the NDA permissable protions of a meeting with HP on this subject last month.

These documents seem pretty similar. Its going to take some reading to find the informaiton you desire.

Q1: The EVA 4000 and 6000 use the same controllers (HSV200). The difference is in licensing - you can connect twice as much disk drives to the 6000.
