EVA Enclosure M5314 - Need Help!

Hi guys,

I need some light with one problem.
I've got one old EVA Chassis M5314. It has the EMU, and 2 FC Modules, and, a Brocade 200E as a FC Switch.
I want to get this working, but, not really sure about what I need. Can I get the array working just with the 2 FC Modules with a direct conexion from the brocade?
I've read something about needing a HSV Controller to manage it. Do I really need it?

You have just disks. Of course you need the controllers, this makes it an EVA.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

That's a good answer.
In my case, Im not thinking in expanding with more disk enclosures, so, I dont mind using this like "stand-alone" (probably we are not talking here of EVA concept). In this situation, I still need the controller?

And, do you have a service manual for this M5314 for checking the part numbers I need?

Thanks in advance!

For all EVAs you need a HSV controller pair and 1 disk enclosure (or more, depending on model). This enclosure is not intended for standalone and will probably not work.

Hope this helps!

If at this point, i dont need redundancy, should be enough with just 1 controller?
HSV110 Should be fine?

So, more or less, the checklist :
Enclouse M5314 : Got it.
HSV Controller : Need it.
Fabric Switch : Got it.
HBA for Proliant : Got it.
Software : Need it.

And, by the way Thorsten, thanks for all your help ... Im not the best with SAN.

You will probably need Command View software and license if you want to administer the EVA.

And... if your server(s) is running Windows, you will also need to download MPIO. That way Windows wont see multiple occurrences of the LUNs.

Thanks for the answer and the extra tip Marcus.
Question about software, is there any "express" version of command view, or lite version just with the basic tools for creating the arrays?

Thanks in advance!

Re: EVA Enclosure M5314 - Need Help!

Sorry, just one version. It can be downloaded and has a 60 day license included, after that expires you will need a proper CV license

From what you said earlier I think you were looking to use the shelf as a stand alone disk box, it's not supported but it does work if you connect a HBA to the shelf on a windows box, the disks appear and can be formatted but it's just capacity not raid or Vraid, depends what you're going to use the space for really. We do this in our workshop to test parts independently of the EVAs but don't use them this way in a production environment.
