EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

does anyone know if having different I/O card versions in a shelf is a problem (not sure how it happened) We have card A with H/W ver 04 and F/W 00.09 and card B H/W ver 05 F/W ver 01.02. Can the firmware be made to match?

Re: EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

Hi,
There are the following types of the EVA enclosures:
eva 3k,5k - M5314, M5314A, M5314B
eva 4k,6k,8k - M5314A, M5314B
eva 41xx,61xx, 81xx - M5314C

with the following IO modules:
M5314 noEPBC
M5314A and B EPBC
M5314C CTS

Resume
supposing that it is the same type (compatible) of the IO module and maybe the firmware of one of them needs to be upgraded, all components firmware upgrade is the part of the controller firmware upgrade, ...

Re: EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

Part of the issue is that HP won't do the software and firmware update because of the mis-match, but if the update would match up the firmware I don't see the problem. Oh and the EVA seems to be running quite happily as is.

Re: EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

Hi, not sure at the mo, I'm at a different site. Still, in relation to the original question, would this make any difference. Is it likely that different modules would be supported by one version and not another?

Re: EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

Hi,
if you want to be on the supported solution, the best suggestion is to plan the whole firmware upgrade procedure by local HP. If you e.g. are on the firmware 3028 it can be online without the downtime...

Re: EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

Hardware Version: 04
Firmware Version: 00.09
70-40616-S1
Spare: 245144-001
No plastic cover over module

CV Hardware version: 05
CV Firmware version: 01.02
70-40616-S2
Spare: 332597-001
Plastic cover over module

Both are compatible with M5314, but it's not recommended to have two I/O modules of different model on the same enclosure.

Re: EVA disk enclosure I/O card versions

Bottom line of this extract from the HP EVA service manual answers the co-existence question. No firmware update found without paying HP though :-(

FRU kits for rev E I/O modules (part numbers shown in Table 23) contain two SFP transceivers

to meet the requirements of all replacement scenarios.

Rev E modules have a difference in packaging from lower-revision modules: a protective cover

is installed over some components on the printed circuit board to protect these components from

scraping and damage during module insertion into and removal from the drive enclosure.

All supported revisions of I/O modules may co-exist in a drive enclosure.
