EVA4000 2C1D, adding new Disk Enclosure

We have EVA4000 2C1D Array, with a pair of HSV200 controllers, one M5314A disk drive enclosure.
It is completely loaded and working in a production environment.
We have got a new Disk Enclosure (14disks)and we wish to add it to existing configuration.
Whether a question it is possible to add a new Disk Enclosure (14disks)not disconnecting EVA (shtudown array), and on how many it risky to add Disk Enclosure on powered EVA4000

It is possible to do, but generally it would be better to take some downtime, especially if your EVA is racked...

If you plan on upgrading to more disk shelves later on, you may want to move the controllers up to U7-10 and/or if you think you might upgrade to a 6000, move them up to U14-17.

Eitherway, always hae a backup of all your data.

You can perfectly do this online

Here is the procedure

Re: EVA4000 2C1D, adding new Disk Enclosure

We successfully add Disk Enclosure, Thanks,
Now total we have 2 disk enclosure an 28 disks
each disk is: 136.73Gb
136.73 x 28 = 3,828.44
But on EVA, Storage Capacity Total space is: 3332.41
EVA Operational Status is Good, no pending operations
All 28 Disk is groped in 1 disk group, all disk status is Online and Grouped.
3828.44 - 3332.41 = 496.03
and we lost = 496.03 Gb, where 496 Gb gone?

What is your Disk Protection set to? None? Single? or Double? Looks like single to me with the difference being overhead/metadata/miscalculation.

Single protection, you lose an additional 2x136.73 (273.46)

Double protection, you lose an additional 4x136.73 (546.92).

Re: EVA4000 2C1D, adding new Disk Enclosure

Upgraded EVA 2CD2, Disk Group parametrs

Capacity Total: 3332.41 GB
Total disks: 28
Drive Type: Online
Condition/State Operational state: Good
Leveling state: Inactive
Leveling progress: n/a
RSS Disk state: None

Disk drive failure protection
Requested level: None
Actual level: None

Occupancy
Total: 1858.5 GB
Alarm level: 90%

and this is on second EVA, its not upgrade yet, its still 2CD1

Capacity Total: 1913.36 GB
Total disks: 14
Drive Type: Online
Condition/State Operational state: Good
Leveling state: Inactive
Leveling progress: n/a
RSS Disk state: None

Disk drive failure protection
Requested level: None
Actual level: None

Occupancy Total: 1835.9 GB
Alarm level: 90%

Why "Occupancy Total" on both EVA is 1858.5 GB ???
1-st EVA is upgradet and theare 28x136 disk and 2-nd is 14x136

Re: EVA4000 2C1D, adding new Disk Enclosure

Occupancy is the amount of storage space you have allocated to your hosts.

On the upgraded EVA, if you did not create or expand any virtual disks yet, then you should have the occupancy that you had beforethe upgrade.

As for why you lost 500GB, I am unsure.
