EVA4000 and Business Copy backup question
I've just gotten an EVA4000 with Business Copy. It's attached to
a rp7410.
At the moment, I backup data by splitting the mirrors, mount the split mirrors
and backup to tape then resync.
It appears that I can Snapclone, Snapshot, mount the copy and backup up to tape. IтАЩm still uncertain if this will work, we have disam flat files and I cannot kill off the users to do the backup.
The question is can Snapclone, Snapshot create a sound backup with disam files still open?
I know I can use SSSU to create the backup, mount the lun for backup, but can SSSU call a script to control the autoloader, loading and unloading tapes?
Thanks for the help
Joe

Re: EVA4000 and Business Copy backup question
SSSU can control backup-mount lun-open/close
oracle so runs over shell and i think
it only depends on your "scripting" skills.
i am using HP OV dataprotector Omniback 5.0
with SSSU without any problem.
Good Luck,

Re: EVA4000 and Business Copy backup question
you didn't mention the backup tool.
We are using DataPortector 5.5, as mentioned above, DP has a feature that allow snapshot/snapclone.
we do however turn off application (SAP) before doing snapshot operation.
from you mail I understand you use split operation.
I understand you also didn't umount filesystem before splitting.
tradition held that umounting a filesystem is the only way to ensure data is writen to disk.
IMHO you will have same coherence of data using split or snap.
bear in mind that it is the EVA who do snap or split operation.
so my guess is that you will benefit from substituing snap to split operation.
