EVA4400 Backend cabling

Hello all,

we just get a hint from HP that we are using an unsupported cabling scheme:
At each M6412 disk shelf ,for each loop (green and red) P1 is used instead of P2 and vice versa.
That means: the green loop starts at controller 1 and goes to P2 green of the first shelf. P1 green goes to P2 of the 2nd shelf, and so on until P1 of the last shelf goes to Controller 2.

My understanding was, that these two ports are interchangeable.

Is there really a difference between P1 and P2?

Follow that diagram. One loop is cable with controller 1 connected to the first enclosure, and the other with controller 1 connected to the last enclosure.

I would rather refer to App.A p.52
"Connecting device port Fibre cables to EVA4400"

Just look at the green loop. It starts at the top(controller) and goes down to the 1st shelf, Port 1. It continues from Port 2 to Port 1 of the 2nd shelf, and so on.

What we did is: Start at the controller, go down to Port *2* of the 1st shelf, continuing from Port *1* of the 2nd shelf, and so on.

Still : Is there any difference between P1 and P1?

Sorry, a typo:

"What we did is: Start at the controller, go down to Port *2* of the 1st shelf, continuing from Port *1* of the 2nd shelf, and so on."

should read:

"What we did is: Start at the controller, go down to Port *2* of the 1st shelf, continuing from Port *1* TO the 2nd shelf, and so on."
