EVA8000 Drive Firmware Upgrade

Hi All,

EVA8000, 2C12D, 168 disks. We plan to upgrade the HDD firmware. How long do you think this will take. From my calculations it could be from 1.5 hours to 9.8 hours. but I am not sure.

Thanks,

Sajeev

Re: EVA8000 Drive Firmware Upgrade

Hi Sajeev,

How are you planning to do the upgrade (online/offline etc) ?

The flashing of a single ungrouped drive takes around 60-90 seconds.

Hope this helps,

Re: EVA8000 Drive Firmware Upgrade

I dont know if I should do it online or offline. What do you suggest ? Also you mentioned, that a single ungrouped drive takes upto 90 seconds. so then what about grouped drives ? worst case senario at 1.5 mins per drive does that mean it will take me about 5 hours ? also upgrading to 6.0 is a not good ?
thanks for the replies :)

Re: EVA8000 Drive Firmware Upgrade

Hi Sanjeev,

Read through this:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00596626/c00596626.pdf

Figure out how many disks need the firmware update, if only few (say 3-4) then go for online firmware upgrade. Process is mentioned in the above document that you will need to ungroup the disk first and then upgrade the firmware then include in the disk group. in 168 disks diskgroup it may take a day for each firmware upgrade. But if you need to upgrade many (say over 10disks) then better go offline, you will incur the downtime on EVA.

To get a list of latest firmware for each model of hdd, see here:

Hope this helps.
