Hi to all,
We are going to add 4 300GB Fiber disks to Eva4100 which is in production for more than 1 year with 8 disks each 300GB and having protection level as 0.What we need to do is first adding disk to the same disk group, then change protection level to 1 disk failure. What is the best way to do this, and if you have any experience like this stuff what do you recommend us to do.
thanks a lot.

Re: Eva 4100 Add Disk, change protection level
Hi,
a) the best practice is to group 8 disk at a time to create the full new RSS (8 physical disks by default).
b) you can switch the single disk protection anytime online but keep in mind that single disk protection means that you will "loose" the capacity of 2 physical disks for the spares

the pain is one part of the reality

Solution
Put in the first disk drive and wait until it is visible in Command View EVA in the ungrouped disks folder. Then the next disk and so on. This will prevent an accidential assignment of duplicate drive names by CV-EVA.
Go to the Disk Group's properties and [Add disks] - all 4 at once.
After the leveling has finished, you can change the protecion level. Well, you can request the change immediately and the EVA will turn it on as soon as enough capacity has become available.
