Expansion procedure cache HP EVA 8400

hi all, I have to expand the cache of an HP EVA 8400, currently has 12 GB and I have to put 22GB.

The upgrade pack 2 controllers are new, I would like to know the procedure for changing them.

Do you know where I can find technical documentation?

The HSV model is el450.
The firmware of the HSV is: 9522000

Greetings

Hello,
I do not think it is customer replaceble procedure. In my opionion it must by done by HP skilled personel.

Quickspecs says the DIMMs are optional CSR.

Instructions with video is in the SML.

How to buy it though? I could not see an option # in the qspecs..

Re: Expansion procedure cache HP EVA 8400

Hey guys, thanks for answering, I've been watching videos of the SML and is not exactly what I have to do, but what would this procedure?

The procedure will do it online:

1. I turn off one of the HSV450 from Command View
2. Disconnect all cables, note the order of the Device and Host Ports
3. remove the memory card controller old
4. Remove the SFP former FC controller, the I zonning by WWN and SFPs Llos connect but old, foreign exchange and the WWN would perform zonning again.
4. introduce the new controller in the rack
5. Connect the device as it was prior Ports
6. Connect the port Mirror
7. Enter the old Memory card
8. Enter SFP Fibre Channel Ports for Hosts
9. Connect the FC as they were.
10 I turn on the new controller
11. Check the Command View that has joined the Storage System correctly.
12. I see that passes ownership of the two controllers Vdisk

I THINK ALL IS ONCE TESTED THIS, WOULD MAKE THE SAME WITH THE OTHER PARENT

CAN I MISS SOMETHING?

If you have a document similar to Disk enclousure change but for perfect control.

THANK YOU !!!!!!!

Re: Expansion procedure cache HP EVA 8400

First I can't believe they would let you do this, or that you would want to do it yourself... Just to much to go wrong..

Strange they would sell/send you an entire new controller... If you've ever seen the guts of the controller there's not much in there and the cache is just regular server ECC DDR ram, I think mine had Crucial stickers.. or Maybe Micron.. I can't exactly remember exactly what speed DDR it was but I think it was DDR1 400.. I remember thinking it was older DDR ram..

You could literally buy some server ram from NewEgg and stick it in there if your nuts and don't mind possibly voiding your warranty :)

Re: Expansion procedure cache HP EVA 8400

You are actually replacing both controllers in this case, It is better to upgrade the current firmware to new XCS before doing this upgrade to ensure that there are no issues. (Most porbably new controllers will have current firmware.)

Normally this upgrade is done by HP Support personnel.
