Extending VG from XP12000

Hi all

I am new to XP 12000 disk array.
I came to my company and they have already HP 9000/800 servers connected to XP12000

I want now to extend some volume groups.

I ran #ioscan -fnC disk

disk 66 0/5/1/0.1.13.0.0.2.2 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP OPEN-V
/dev/dsk/c10t2d2 /dev/rdsk/c10t2d2
target 27 0/5/1/0.1.13.0.0.3 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
disk 15 0/5/1/0.1.13.0.0.3.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP DISK-SUBSYSTEM
/dev/dsk/c10t3d0 /dev/rdsk/c10t3d0

two types of disks: OPEN-V and DISK-SUBSYSTEM

#diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c10t3d0
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c10t3d0:
vendor: HP
product id: DISK-SUBSYSTEM
type: direct access
size: 0 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 0

some of the OPEN-V disks belog to some volume groups and some others are not

I tired to add DISK-SUBSYSTEM and OPEV-V disks that are not belongs to any vg, but errors appear

How can solve this matter?

Hi:

What is what you try to execute?

Re: Extending VG from XP12000

DISK-SUBSYSTEM is NOT a disk!

This is just like a "place holder".

Try to run "xpinfo" to get informations about the disk devices.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Extending VG from XP12000

Hi there

I just want to extend some volume groups and I see some disks from XP12000 that I am not familiar with and may need to be configured. that is the whole point.

I can't find xpinfo in our servers. where do I find it?

Thanks

Re: Extending VG from XP12000

Ask your HP contact for the xpinfo utility, because it is not available on the internet but availble to customers that own an xp array.

For all XP related things I would strongly recommend to ask the person who set up the array on your site. The whole thing is too complicated to explain it an all side effects in a small post.

Do you have a HP contact for software support?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Extending VG from XP12000

Just to add this information:

Your OPEN-V devices are real disk devices (I would like to say you can use them to store your data).

You have to be 100 percent sure to use the right device, because you can easily destroy data that exists on the devices.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Extending VG from XP12000

Just for your reference - xpinfo is your best bet, assuming you have support from HP. You can also use diskinfo to get the size of your volume. The DISK-SUBSYSTEM you are seeing has to do with the way HP-UX scans the targets (the "t" in cXtYdZ). It is a placeholder and is zero bytes in size. On the XP12000, there is a host group mode you can set to get rid if these "ghost LUNs". I believe it is Host Group Mode 12 (not Host Group 12, Host Group MODE- look under "options" for a host group.
