External Disks for an HP 9000 D380

Hi all

I am looking for an unexpensive external disk array, to be attached to a HP 9000 D380: possibly a disk array with 4 or 5 70-80 Gb disks, to be attached to the external Fast Wide Differential interface of the machine. With the HP brand I've found the "single stack" model HVD10, but unfortunately it isn't available anymore from our italian reseller - and as "spare parts", the HP 73 Gb disks for this box will be quite expensive, really too much for our no profit foundation.
Has any of you a good suggestion for such a situation ?

Hi Enrico, we have used 4 x 180GB drives in the A3312A high availability "Jamaica" arrays before connecting to the 9000/D class servers, the only real draw back is that the drives are 7200 RPM but the price is real cheap.

another option to get that much disk space with out buying and external array is to upgrade your internal disks in the hot plug bay in the D380, you can get up 396GB of disk internally into that hot plug D380 disk bay by using 2 of the 180GB and 1 of the 36GB disk disks.

I am sorry but haven't found the A3312A model on http://partsurfer.hp.com
About the internal hot swap disk, HP sells these with the maximum capacity of 18 Gb. Could you tell me how to find a 150-200 Gb disk for the internal slot ?

You probably will not find the A3312A on the HP site because its a little older and they seem to remove some of the older hardware from the on-line parts site. HP never made a drive bigger than 18GB for the A3312A and the 9000/D class boxes but we have found some. There are a few arrays and drives listed on ebay that you could check out to get some specs and prices... If you go to www.ebay.com and type in A3312A a few drive arrays will come up, the 36GB drive number is ST36331X and the 180GB is ST180331X
