Failed drive in AutoRaid 12h on HP-UX 10.20 system

I've got an old HP-UX 10.20 K-Class with an AutoRAID 12h attached to it.

The AutoRAID has had a failed disk. The output for the drive with arraydsp was:

I had a spare drive that I used to replace the failed drive. Now the arraydsp command sees the replacement drive like this:

Disk State = PREVIOUSLY USED
Vendor = SEAGATE

Max. block addr = 35566479
Block length = 512
Serial number = 13L500001931
Firmware revision = HP03

Volume set serial no. = 6325 3

Seems the replacement drive had been used before. Anyway, the array has not rebuilt even though the arrayrbld command says the array has auto rebuild enabled.

How can I get the array to start the rebuild? Is the "Disk previously used" stopping the rebuild process?

You need to go through the front panel menus and manually include the disk in the array. I forget where exactly that option is in the menu structure, but once it is included, your rebuild should start.

That was it. The drive is now "included" and the array is "ready".

We've got two AutoRAID 12H's at my work, and I've already been through a few disk and controller failures and array rebuilds. One time I was in a similar situation as yourself where I had to manually include a disk. I used the 'arraycfg' command to do this.

# arraycfg -D

For example:
# arraycfg -D A2 -a 00754d1b0000

I believe you can perform every operation available from the LCD screen via command line. 'man arraycfg', 'man arraymgr', 'man arrayrbld', and 'man arraydsp' for additional information.
