Firmware upgrade process
We are seeing this as 3 step process. Are we missing any more components?
Also, any suggested order to install these updates?
This is a firmware upgrade for HP StorageWorks P2000 G3 MSA FC and FC/iSCSI storage arrays which includes array controller firmware and approved companion versions of drive enclosure firmware. When installing array controller firmware, the process will also update firmware on attached drive enclosures. (this upgrade installed from SMU GUI)

The IOM is part of the HP StorageWorks P2000 Dual I/O LFF Drive Enclosure, can be installed from Storage Management Utility (SMU) GUI. Not clear if IOM is part of above aggregate kit, please clarify:

HP SAS or SATA drive firmware update, as necessary to get these upto latest revs:
We have some ST31000424SS 1TB drives at 0005 rev level, which could go upto 0006 level (installed from Windows system, or a Linux host install kit available with Linux-kit).

Are we covering all components, and doing these in correct order ?
Appreciate your suggestions ..

Why would we need to perform Enclosure Update seperately?

Or, these two seperate items ?

Re: Firmware upgrade process
Reading from Installation Instructions Tab:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=4118559&swItem=MTX-952106b1fcc1483086e76ccbee&mode=4&idx=1
Installation:
Note: This firmware package may not be needed if you are also installing array controller firmware, because it may be included in the controller firmware bundle. When installing a controller firmware bundle that includes both controller and I/O module firmware, the process will update firmware on controllers in the array enclosure and on I/O modules in attached drive enclosures.
So, if you are doing Array Firmware (most likely it includes Enclosure firmware, check notes), no need to perform Enclosure update seperately.
Thanks guys!

Re: Firmware upgrade process
Being flexible, unfortunately involves additional configuration/management complexity :-(
But, wouldn't it be fun if there is a UPDATE-CHECKER tool which interactively obtains your configuration/answers, and lists all pertinent firmware updates?
Thank you guys for your suggestions!

Re: Firmware upgrade process
Compare this with EVA - there is a single firmware file only...
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
