HASS Array Disk Error

Hi,

The system (K Class server, HP-UX 11.00) displayed the following messages. The messages appeared just as below with no further messages. Could any one please tell what is the reason and seriousness of this error with possible solution?

Re: HASS Array Disk Error

Morning John,
you normally get that kind of message when there is something wrong with the termination or you have got more that one drive with the same address set on the switches on the rear of the Hass unit. That is a first starting point

Re: HASS Array Disk Error

John,
4d is "LOG SENSE" SCSI command... very peculiar, usually read/write (28/2a) commands are logged for such events. Device is c1t13d0 - it has low SCSI priority. And it's important how often you see tese events in syslog.
Recommendations could be:
- increase PV timeout;
- check disk with dd (read whole disk to /dev/null);
- check disk defect list with STM (unfortunately you'll need password which you can obtain from HP support).
If there're a lot SCSI-related event on this bus with different devices logged then I would suspect bus - cables, terminator(s)

Re: HASS Array Disk Error

Thanks for the reply.

Malvin,

No conflicting switch settings are found and could not think of any termination issue because the disks were fine so far.

Eugeny,

Try your suggestions. Please tell how did you calculate the device address c1t13d0 and from which source.

Thanks

dev: cb01b000
cb driver major number
01 instance number (c1)
B SCSI Id (t13)

Re: HASS Array Disk Error

Oops! Just now I realized that I was wrong converting 0xb into decimal. Of course 0xb is 11 in decimal so disk device file will be
c1t11d0
