HP Autoraid 12H
Have an autoraid 12H that is using only one
cable on the back when there are two controllers. It is using a loop cable that I
would like to disconnect and put in another
scsi cable so that there is redundancy. Right
now there if there were problems it would not
failover to the other controller. Is there
any problem with scsi addresses or device files
changing if I replace the cable?
Thanks

Re: HP Autoraid 12H
There are a few things you will need to do.
1) Vgreduce to remove the current alternate path for each LUN.
2) Shutdown and recable. Make sure that each bus is now properly terminated.
3) You can leave the SCSI ID of the alternate controller as it is unless it conflicts with another ID already on the alternate bus.
4) Restart the host. You will need to run insf to create the new device node.
5) Vgextend to add the new alternate path to each LUN.
Man vgreduce, vgextend, insf for details.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: HP Autoraid 12H
james,
if you attach another scsi cable to the second - (looped???) controller, your server will now see the same "lun's", but with new scsi ID's and device files, BUT thats OK, because you want TWO PATH's to the same lun's.
Hopefully you have the manual's?

Re: HP Autoraid 12H
James - I had this exact same problem. Follow the instructions in A. Clay's post and you will be fine.
The server came configured from HP this way even though I had specifically order dual controllers in the AutoRAID. Apparently the folks assembling these servers are missing something.
There are a number of threads about how to stripe across controllers in the 12H for optimal performance. Be sure to check them out before rebuilding your LVM configuration.
Good luck,
Tim
