HP MirrorDisk/UX vs PartitionManager

Hi All

On HPUX 11i v1 and VA7100, we have 1 x VG (Volum Group) and 3 x LV (Logical Volum) we want to add disks and extend our three LV but we don’t have HP MirrorDisk/UX installed, we only have PartitionManager (B.11.11.01.06)
Our questions are:

1- When we vreate new LUN X, the system will automatically create PV or we must use pvcreate to create new PV on X

2- if we can do that with HP PartitionManager ? How ?

3- If not what version of MirrorDisk/UX we must install?

Re: HP MirrorDisk/UX vs PartitionManager

If you create an present LUNs, you need to do an ioscan and insf to make it visible on the host.

Then you can pvcreate, vgextend and lvextend.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP MirrorDisk/UX vs PartitionManager

Forgot to say, the partition manager is something completely different. This is for managing nPartitions (device a server into independent partitons (servers) - has nothing to do with disks.

You don't need mirror/us for extending VGs.

Hope this helps!

Re: HP MirrorDisk/UX vs PartitionManager

Hi

Thanks for your responses.

We don't need MirrorDisk/UX to extend LV ? We can do it without MirrorDisk/UX ? How ?

Re: HP MirrorDisk/UX vs PartitionManager

Hello,

as Thorsten already said this little rule of three should work: pvcreate, vgextend and lvextend.

Take a look at the manpages or additional documentation.
