Hi,

At present i have the Virtual Array with 12*36GB hard disk.i want to add the 3 nos of 73GB hard disk.whether it is possible to add the 73Gb hard disk or we have to add only 36GB hard disk in the Virtual Array.

Re: HP surestore VA7100 Hard disk upgradation

Hi barkath,

Your VA7110 may be autoraid with hotspare with 12*36GB HDD. You can add 73GB or 36GB HDD in your VA.
If you use 73GB HDD then you will get only 36GB space from each hdd and one 73GB will use as Hotspare.
So it is best to use 36GB HDD in your VA.
Thanks

Re: HP surestore VA7100 Hard disk upgradation

Shalom,

It seems possible to add 73 GB to your system. First to the hot spare and then one disk at time until the whole system is 73 GB.

However at the end of the day you may still have to back enverything up and rebuild your volume groups due to limitaiotns of LVM configuration when you built the volume groups.

Before touching anything you should do a full cold backup of any data on the array.

This storage system is a little long in the too, e.g. a bit old and you might want to consider long term an upgrade to something a bit more flexible.

Re: HP surestore VA7100 Hard disk upgradation

Its NOT a good idea to add 3 disks of a different capacity to the existing 12 disks.
Better add 36GB disks only.
Is the array running in autoraid or raid-1 modus?. Can you please post the output of armdsp -a here?
