Hardware Question

Would it be possible to run three ds2405's off two Rp5470's? - I need to implement two disk arrays, racked with my 5470's, to be Mirrored. My dilemma is that I need 16 total drives per array (18GB), the ds2405 holds a max of 15... Can I max out two arrays and split the 3rd one among my two systems??? Any suggestions at all would be great!!!

Re: Hardware Question

What about using larger drives?

Re: Hardware Question

The most Gig for the buck last I checked were 73 GB drives.

Petes right, I'd go for that. 18's are hard to find and expensive.

Re: Hardware Question

My need is for 8 mirrored drives per array, disk space isnt that important, as is 16 drives per array. Can the 2405 be divided??

Re: Hardware Question

Hi,
Are you actually talking about the ds2400 FC disk system. A such system can of course be shared.

Re: Hardware Question

Adam,

*basically* the DS2405 can be "shared", but first of all I hope you are aware that it is a JBOD, *not* an array.

So you have to take LVM limitations into account espacially regarding striping and mirroring. Since you seem to have a need for disk performance, you might want to reconsider you configuration.

Re: Hardware Question

The DS2405 has two separate fiber channel busses, and they can be daisy chained or can connected to two different computers. You can daisy chain and connect the second computer to the last DS2405 enclosure in the chain. However, each channel goes to each disk, as they are dual ported disks. So, each system will be see all the disks in the shared enclosure. This is very useful and necessary for implementing a dual node ServiceGuard clusters using MirrorDisk/UX with no single point of failure in the disk storage system, but adds an extra administrative burden if not used in a cluster, as care will have to be taken not to use the "other" system's disk that is fully visible.

Re: Hardware Question

If you are in need of the 73gb disk for these systems please let me know. We have some lying around that we were going to send back to hp.

Re: Hardware Question

DS2405A is not supported with switches, please keep this in mind.
