Hot spare drive different than existing array drive size.

Server = DL380. P800 Array Controller
2 x 72GB (RAID1)
3 x 146GB (RAID5)

If I add a 146GB drive to this controller, as a hot spare, will the 72GB RAID1 array utilize this drive if needed? I know that the RAID5 array will use it if needed.

Thanks for your time!

hi,

yes it will, your hot spare should be at least the size of the largest disk in any of your arrays, if one of your 72gb disks fail you will only get use of 72gb of the 146gb spare disk, once you get a replacement for the 72gb you can get your config back to the way it was.
