How to configure EVA6000 for Oracle 9i Database

Hi,

- What do we need to consider about LUNs, DG, VL, LV, etc for our Oracle Database that uses EVA6000 storage?
- What is the recommended storage configuration according to EVA6000 features?
- What is the recommended EVA6000 configuration for Oracle Database?

- If there any EVA6000 checklist configuration to support Oracle Databases?

Thank you

Re: How to configure EVA6000 for Oracle 9i Database

I suggest you to start by reading the EVA best practice. Your question is very generic and depends of what you want most, availability, performance, or a balance between them.

There are several mix of configurations at storage, operating system and database level.

It's for the previous generation EVA, but all still applies.

There are lots more whitepapers here: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/arraywhitepapers.html

Specifically for Oracle (or any database), you should create at least 2 disk groups - one for dataspaces and indices, and one for logs. It's important for performance and recoverability to seperate these two.

For HP-UX hosts, use more, smaller LUNs as HP-UX handles more smaller LUNs better than one or two large LUNs. For other operating systems (like Windows), feel free to use nice big LUNs.

Good luck,

Vince
