How to create file system on zoned vdisk created from eva4k

Hi,

We are using command_view_eva interface to create luns for our applications. we have hp-ux11i 2-node service guard cluster attached to SAN and booting of o.s to be taken up from EVA4k SAN. To accomplish this task, we have setup the following for our unix server nodes called uds1 and uds2 as follows :-
(1) From EVA4k, we created vdisk called sysdisk1 and presented to uds1 alone.
(2) From EVA4k we created vdisk called sysdisk1 and presented to uds2 alone.

After the creation, when we put ioscan -fnkC from both uds1 and uds2 nodes, we have the following ioscan output.

From uds1:-
disk 4 0/3/1/0/4/0.20.1.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV200
/dev/dsk/c4t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d1

From uds2:-
disk 3 0/3/1/0/4/0.20.1.0.0.0.1 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP HSV200
/dev/dsk/c4t0d1 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d1

We see that the H/W path and device address are one and the same from both system. Please let me know if we are going to install os from uds1 and uds2, they are still unique with respect to the LUN associated.

please note that the zoning is not done physically, while creating new LUN from command_view_eva, we specified that present it to uds1 alone and the same thing for other LUN creation to uds2.

This looks like only one and the same disk.

You cannot boot 2 servers from the same disk (you can, but this will corrupt and crash both hosts).

I would strongly recommend to do a proper zoning, because it is very dangerous, if one host has access to the boot disk from another.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
