How to migrate from RAID 1 to RAID 5?

I have DL-380 with 2 HDDs of 72GB in RAID level 1. From the Array I have created 2 logical drives: 1. 10GB (C: and D:)is basic. 2. Rest (E:) is dynamic.
I wish to expand partition E:
I heard that I need to migrate to RAID 5. Can someone explain what is the procedure in head lines.
Thanks

Re: How to migrate from RAID 1 to RAID 5?

Hi

For creation of Raid 1 there is a need for only 2 disks whereas for Raid 5 you need atleast 3 disks. With your current configuration you need additional 3 disks for Raid 5. The other option would be to add another disk and make the whole thing a Raid 5 by doing this you will be losing the existing data/OS which will require a OS load and data restore.

Hope this helps

Re: How to migrate from RAID 1 to RAID 5?

Hi,
Thank for your replying.
I have made it successfully without loosing data.
Here are the headlines of my steps:
1. Adding physical disk to the current (2 disks in RAID 1).
2. Extending the Array from the Array Configuration Utility (ACU) of HP system tools.
By doing it, I was asked to migrate to RAID 5.
3. After migrating process completed, I extend the partition from the Microsoft tools (Disk Management).
At the end; partition E: was extend with the additional disk.
Anyway, I wish to thank you for the replying.
