Inline Drive array expansion

Just curious if there is a white paper that explains the in's and out's of doing an in place upgrade of the drive array, i.e. moving from 18GB drives to 36GB drives.
thanks,
Ed

Ed,
which storage system are you talking about? This procedure may vary from system to system

Re: Inline Drive array expansion

Yes there is an HP white paper on the subject. We have it posted at our Web site in the support section. Most systems will accept a larger drive as a replacement for a smaller one and will simply truncate the larger drive until all the drives are the same again.

THough the process is possible, backup and restore is probably more simple and since you should backup before replacing the drive, it makes sense to remove the entire set and replace then restore. This way any data partitions also be increased in size where as in the rebuild method, you could not increase an existing partitions size.
