LC3 and Rack Storage 8

We currently have a Rack Storage/8 connected to a HP LXPro system. Is it possible to connect this storage device to an LC3? If so, what parts are required?

You would need to see the specs that are different between the systems.

As long as you have an external SCSI connection all you may need is a differnet SCSI cable. That is if your External on the LC3 is differnet than the LXPro

Re: LC3 and Rack Storage 8

If your LxPro has a HP Netraid card installed, it is possible to move the card into the new server, configure the card in the OS, and accept the disk configs from the RS8 to bring the new system up again.
We have also sucessfully moved a RAID array containing an OS from one server model to another, by installing generic SCSI and video drivers before the transfer, and then the specific model drivers after the array transfer.
In short, take precautions, and you should be ok.

Re: LC3 and Rack Storage 8

Thanks for the input everyone.

Do I need to buy a NetRAID controller for the LC3?

If so, which model should I get?

According to some information I found on HP's web site, the LC3 supports two different controllers. The NetRAID-3SI and the NetRAID-1SI.

Our LXPro has twelve 18GB drives along with the Rack Storage 8. If we move the NetRAID controller to the LC3, will this affect the other 12 drives in the LXPro?

Re: LC3 and Rack Storage 8

A lot depends on the configuration of the disks that you already have. The 12 internal disks are probably connected to the 2 onboard SCSI channels, and may not be running a RAID configuration. If this is correct then you must have another SCSI card to connect the RS8 with.
If you laready have a 3 channel NetRAID card then it is possible that all your disks are in a RAID config. If this is the case, everything is really easy, just move the card, get a RS12, put the disks that were internal into the RS12, connect it to the channels of the NetRAID that were internal, accept the disk config, and all should work.
To be more specific, you need to establish the exact hardware and config that you currently have in the Lx Server.
