LEDS FLASHING

Hello!

I have a storage with this caracteristics:
MSA500 G2 with 2 controllers (for redundancy)
10 x 146GB disks (14 slots in total)
MSA500 G2 4-port IO Module
Power: 735V (max)

Somethimes the leds in the disks starting to flashing...

I look for in the user guide and i found:

(when the 3 leds are flashing):
Do not remove the drive. Removing a drive may cause data loss in non-fault-tolerant configurations.

Either (1) the drive is part of an array being selected by an array configuration utility; (2) Drive Identification has been selected in
HP SIM; or (3) drive firmware is being updated.

When i use the array configuration utility the leds flashing but last week almost every day the leds are flashing...and i didn't use this...

Anyone knows why? Can it be a problem?

Re: LEDS FLASHING

Hi,
according to the:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00182750/c00182750.pdf?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
a) the HDD drive leds are flashing when:
there is a high activity on the drive, or the drive is being configured as a part of array
b) they are not flashing when:
there is no activity on the drives

if you want to verify if everything is ok,
that check the LED nr 15, which is a drive failure LED:
a) if its green, then the array configured drive has failed,
b) if its off, then no drives has failed
the pain is one part of the reality

Re: LEDS FLASHING

Hi,
this is an ERRATA of my reply, in the sentence "if you want to verify if everything is ok,
that check the (CONTROLLER - this was missing) LED nr 15, which is a drive failure LED:
a) if its green, then the array configured drive has failed,
b) if its off, then no drives has failed
the pain is one part of the reality
