LUN resizing on EVA4400

I have an EVA4400 connected wintel servers. I would like to know whether it is possible to resize a LUN online without losing data.

By "resizing" I mean increasing or reducing the size of a LUN without any impact on data availability and integrity.

Can you help in this regard?

Re: LUN resizing on EVA4400

Increasing the size of a LUN has always been possible on an EVA.
Another thing is the change of the operating system filesystem, it might not be possible to extend the existing partition and you have to create a new one.

LUN shrinking is possible if the OS supports it. For example, Windows 2008 supports it, Windows 2003 does not. Check your operating system documentation.

Re: LUN resizing on EVA4400

Hello,

exactly, this depends on the operating system capability to handle the variable size of "physical" disks, as Vdisks are seen. Windows 2008 supports this feature, as well as HPUX (though with HPUX it is not possible to do this online).

Re: LUN resizing on EVA4400

Of course, Torsten is fully right, HPUX 11.31 can handle this online :-)

Just have seen the "-E" parameter to vgmodify command of the man page.

Don't expect too much from W2008 disk shrinks:
