MSA 1000 with 2 controller and 2 internet MSA SAN Switch 2/8
Hi All,
Hardware
1. MSA1000 with 2 controller and 2 internet MSA SAN Switch 2/8
2. 2 x DL385 with 2 FC card
3. MSL2024 Tape autoloader (U3)
Objective
1. 2 x DL385 will connect to the 2 SAN switch
2. MSL2024 will connect to the 2 SAN Switch
Problem
1. When i created the logical drive, and i configure the Selective Storage Presentation (SSP), it only show the FC that connect to the 1 SAN switch.
2. So when i unplug the FC cable from the 1 SAN switch, the partition will gone.
3. And each server i see 2 tape drive and 2 unknow medium charger on the device manager, is surpose to be 1 only right?
Question
1. Did I miss out anything?
2. How can I configure the 2 SAN Switch 2/8 to be redundant, meaning they backing up each other/
Thanks

Re: MSA 1000 with 2 controller and 2 internet MSA SAN Switch 2/8
Check that MSA is connected to both switches.
Check that Every server is connected to both SAN Switches.
Check Zoning on the switches.
Check cables.
Check if you need to use "Secure Path" to setup a redundancy without having two devices seen in windows instead of one.
hope this helps

Re: MSA 1000 with 2 controller and 2 internet MSA SAN Switch 2/8
"Check that MSA is connected to both switches." - The switches are internally connected to the MSA Controllers. There is no physical connection to check.
"Check that Every server is connected to both SAN Switches." - You probably need to failover to Controller B. This usually populates the MSA with proper WWID info.
"Check Zoning on the switches." - The switches, by default, allow fully open connections meaning that Everything... can see Everything.
"Check cables." - Yes, check cables. Make sure both HBA's have green lights and not blinking amber lights.
"Check if you need to use "Secure Path" to setup a redundancy without having two devices seen in windows instead of one." - This only applies to STORAGE. Tape Autoloaders are NOT supported by Secure Path.
"1. When i created the logical drive, and i configure the Selective Storage Presentation (SSP), it only show the FC that connect to the 1 SAN switch.
"
See comments above. Failover to controller B.
"2. So when i unplug the FC cable from the 1 SAN switch, the partition will gone.
"
Once you failver and configure SSP for the second path, you shold not have this issue.
"3. And each server i see 2 tape drive and 2 unknow medium charger on the device manager, is surpose to be 1 only right?"
How is the autoloader connected? Do you have 1 autoloader? or 2? Do you have the 2 SAN switches connected together with a fibre cable?
