MSA 30 Single Bus. Install questions

I have bee requested by a client to attach a msa 30 to a Dell PE1850. Is this possible?

Presuming it is possible...
The server is built and in production and the client wants to minimise downtime when attaching the MSA. The disks (8 by 146gb) will need to be initialised and then partitioned. While initialisation is occurring can I have the server booted up to windows and in production?
Will there be a performance hit on the system disks or database disks on the server (due to controller card initialising the new storage disks)?
Presumably it is best practice to let the disks initialise fully before exiting from controller config utility?
And, presumably there is no way of initiallising these disks without bringing the server down?

Thanks for all your time
I will answer any Q's you may have gladly.

p.s. I am estimating 4 to 5 hours to initialise the disks.
Please advise if I am wide of the mark.

Thanks again.

Re: MSA 30 Single Bus. Install questions

MSA 30 is simple JBOD. Which controller will you use to connect it?
If HP Smart Array, it do initialisation in background, performance is degraded until rebuild is completed.
You can change rebuild rate, but if you set it to low initialisation can last for week, if you set it for hight, performance can be heavy affected.
I think its better to set priorities to medium.

Hi Brendan,

The first question must be:
IS my adapter supported on an msa30.

You find a list of supported adapters the quickspecs
