MSA with failed RAID

We have a MSA20 with 3 RAID sets. I have one RAID 5 set that has "failed." using the hpacucli it states that its "ready to rebuild" of the 4 disk only 3 have green lights, the 4th is not on at all, its not a hot spare. If I go into the server bios, it tells me to replace bay 4 disk, I have done this and when I put the new disk in it sees the disk and appears like its attempting to rebuild for about 3 minutes, then the light goes out like the disk is not there. If I run the hpacucli, it always tells me that the disk is OK. Any suggestions?

Re: MSA with failed RAID

I have applied the most recent firmware to the 6400 controller in the server, the MSAs and the disk drives.

Re: MSA with failed RAID

the shelf goes to a warning when we throw data on it. I can power down the MSA, bring it back up, reboot the server and the server sees it. I can mount the partitions, as long as no data is flowing everything is ok, but when we throw data to it, the orange light on the back of the MSA comes on and the server looses connectivity to the MSA. Only way to get it back up is powercycle the MSA and reboot the server.

Re: MSA with failed RAID

hi,

have you tried setting the new disk as a spare for that raid array ( if it's not showing up as a member).

Re: MSA with failed RAID

I would have to delete the array in order to make the disk a hot spare, not willing at this moment to do that. I have replaced the disk and no luck, however, I removed the disk entirely and now the raid is rebuilding. This is not good, since at this point it's not fault tolerant but maybe I will get some use out of it.
